Detroit 139 Square Miles Report

The 139 Square Miles report, published by Detroit Future City, was the first major Detroit data report since the creation of the 2013 Detroit Future City strategic plan. Mass Economics, Detroit Future City, Media Genesis, and Van Dyke Horn collaborated to produce the report. Mass Economics’ primary work focused on Detroit’s economic trends and the ways in which the city’s economy has improved and changed since the Great Recession. The final report provides a close examination of Detroit’s people, economy, and place. The section on People analyzes Detroit’s population and demographic trends, the Economy section examines economic clusters and Detroit’s economic growth trends in comparison to the region and country. Finally, the Place section focuses on the city’s housing issues such as affordability, vacancies, and blight.
