Driving the Manufacturing Renaissance

In collaboration with RW Ventures, Mass Economics performed detailed, sophisticated analytics to understand which manufacturing industries and clusters are likely to grow nationally in the future and identify the types of capacities that will be needed to support this growth in Illinois. The project team then matched necessary future capacities against existing capacities in individual regions and the state overall in order to identify areas that should be the focus of Illinois’ manufacturing strategy. A key component of this work was performing a deep dive into manufacturing supply chains and the creation of typologies of manufacturing suppliers based on their importance to key industries and clusters and their interconnectedness. Finally, the project team identified strategies designed to accelerate Illinois’ manufacturing growth – both in target industry clusters and broadly. Project findings and recommendations were shared by Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC) companies and stakeholders.
