Vision Galveston Plan

Collaborating as part of a consulting team led by Huitt-Zollars, along with Asakura Robinson and Stoss Landscape Urbanism, Mass Economics led the analytics and development of the economics section of a 20-year visioning project – “Vision Galveston: Our Vision, Our Future” for the City of Galveston. Mass Economics contributed longitudinal demographic, socioeconomic, housing, workforce, economic, and commuter flow patterns data, mapping, and analytics to the extensive existing conditions component of the plan. Peer cities were also identified – informed by dozens of snapshot and trend variables across population, demographic, workforce, economic, and inclusion factors – and Galveston was compared to eight of the best peers, based on similarity scores. Finally, working with the rest of the consultant team, 78 (interconnected) recommendations were developed, with descriptions, types, priority, level of investment, implementation agencies, funding sources, and action steps for each identified.
The Vision Galveston plan won the APA-Texas Chapter’s Public Outreach Achievement Award – Gold in 2020 and the organization, Vision Galveston, through its initiatives, Build Galveston, Green Galveston, Measure Galveston, and Incubate Galveston continues to implement the recommendations and strategies identified in the plan.
